Telkomsat started its activities in 1995 as a provider of oil satellite communication system (SKSP) services. In 2013, the company was acquired by PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Persero) Tbk and accelerated its satellite development and service activities.


In 2018 The company changed its identity to PT Telkom Satelit Indonesia (Telkomsat) and obtains a satellite network licence. In the same year, Telkomsat receives the Merah Putih Satellite from satellite manufacturer SSL (Space System Loral)
The inauguration of the Merah Putih Satellite operation marks the consolidation of TelkomGroup's satellite business management into Telkomsat (Business Line Lead).
Finally, in 2020, Telkom Indonesia officially delegates its satellite design activity upstream to Telkomsat.
